Default My Cats Dieing!

Ok, We only have 8 skill slots, and I cant afford to have 2 on my pet, Being that it is hard to survive without my troll unguent, and my other 6 bow attack/Monk skills.
So I propose they make Charm Pet and Comfort Pet the same skill.

This is a good idea, and I think there can be alternative ways to increase pet effectiveness (as just about no high-leveled ranger uses a pet anymore.) I think the problem is mostly at higher levels when a pet starts to suck. Earlier in the game, especially in pre-searing, pets are great, and well worth those 2 skill slots.

1. Make Comfort Pet heal more. Especially for a ranger with little energy, I've noticed that this skill is just like a weak version of orison of healing that costs a lot more energy.

2. Make pets respawn with your party at the shrine when you die. In general, I think pets should be treated more like party members, rather than allies, such as when there's a cinamatic in a mission that warps your party somewhere, currently your pet does not get warped with you.

3. Increase pet HP (or some other stats) at higher levels. Pets are effective at the beginning of the game, but Kryta is about the last place they are usable. Later in the game they just get slaughtered almost instantly and become more of a liability than a asset, especially since they take up at least 1 skill slot.

perhaps each pet has there own set of skills ( and knows when to use them ), such as a moa bird has heal, or a tiger has sever artiry a dune lizard might have Posion a Bear has Knock Down and so on and so on

I don't think you realize Comfort Animal ALSO RESURRECTS the pet. That's why it's ten energy, it's two skills in one already.

They need to "beef up" pets (like people said, health bonus and skills, etc.). Then they MIGHT (emphasis on might) be worth the skill slots

@Goku-if you use it to rezz your pet, all your skills are disabled for around 8 seconds

Did you put points into Beast Mastery? A high level pet belonging to a ranger with high Beast Mastery can hold it's own. Especially if the ranger is a Ra/Mo with some prot/heal capabilties.

My old build had level 10+1 beast mastery. Yes, the pet wasn't terrible, but my new build doesn't use beast mastery at all (I've replaced charm animal with different skills) and it works a lot better than my old one with beast mastery. This is why I'm saying that pets aren't worth it at higher levels.

About comfort animal, even if you do resurrect your pet, it'll die in a few seconds anyways.

If you're not going to focus on beast mastery, don't waste a slot on your pet. It's as simple as that. Sure, it's cool to have it with you... until it dies. Get rid of it. You don't need it and it's not doing anyone any good.

So you think that making a single skill lets you have a permanent pet, heal it, and resurrect it in 1 skill slot is perfectly balanced? Come on, necros don't get that, why do you think rangers should? Not only that, but pets don't continuously lose health as you walk across the map. If you want a pet, take the skills to make it worthwhile, or don't take one at all.

Yes, pets should teleport with you for cut scenes and being resurrected at shrines.

My complaint about comfort animal is that it is a crappy heal for 10 energy. Orison is 5 energy for 20-60 health, while Comfort Animal is 20-87 health for 10 energy. Not only that, but Orison can be used on my party as well as my pet. If they rebalanced it to something like 15-50 health for 5 energy, it would be a lot easier to keep a pet alive because you wouldn't have to wait for 10 full energy to regen (or 7 energy in my case with 8 expertise).

Yeah, that's why you don't resurrect it in the middle of a fight.

Maybe I'm magical or special, but I don't seem to have a problem keeping my lvl 18 Melandru's Stalker alive (5 beastmastery with charm animal, comfort animal, and feral lunge). More than once, he's saved my keester by "taking one for the team" so I could run away or being a distraction while I res everyone else. He's behind me now in levels since I've ascended, but I have no plans to stop taking a pet with me, unless it will just be a problem in certain missions (like vs the mursaat).
